This body of work includes six pieces representing the six months of winter and how the constant changing of temperatures and weather impacts our mood, our clothing and our daily life. Following the start of winter and the tedious, sometimes hopeless transition into spring. The textures and colours represent the fickleness of Alberta winters. The stop and start of snow. The vast blue skies and sunshine that make you think spring is coming despite the freezing temperatures. The constant thawing and freezing, teasing spring only to be covered up by late March slow falls.
While creating each piece I was inspired by a variety of textures both outside and inside. Frost flowers on side walks, hoar frost in the early mornings, warm browns and green grass peaking through snow. The spackle on ceramic mugs, the colours of sweatshirts and fabrics that change with the seasons.
